ABSTRACT:

Virtualisation enables organisations to pursue new backup strategies that can reduce costs and complexity of the process and minimise business disruption. But it also brings new challenges. There are many ways to perform backup and recovery for virtual machines. Some are more costly, time-consuming and resource-intensive and some are more limited in their capabilities. This book explores the current backup and recovery landscape, examines strategy and solutions and offers guidance on the best approaches to reliable and efficient backup and recovery in complex IT environments. It first explores the differences between traditional and modern approaches for backup and recovery in physical and virtual environments; then focuses on selecting the right VM backup strategy; lastly it discusses the pros and cons of the agent-based approach and why agent-less backup is preferred by businesses.
